If you are a customer of ours then you may have heard that PHP 8.0 is going to be released on November the 26th 2020 and wondering what this means for your Website and will you need to upgrade?

First off, we won't be upgrading any of our customer's sites to the new PHP 8.0 Version just yet.

There are some strict criteria we follow before a site can be passed for an upgrade, each website is different and has different features that will be reliant on older versions of PHP that may not have been upgraded. Sometimes these older bits of code will reach the end of life and will need to be rebuilt to work with new the newer version of PHP 8. We will contact you if this is the case and would discuss this part of your yearly review.

If we have passed the criteria what does PHP 8.0 offer you?

The release of this major version means significant changes, new features but also performance improvements. PHP Watch has compiled an overview of the changes to some of the functions we can expect in PHP 8 which will include.
